The sun was obscured by dark clouds and fog. As the new residents unpacked and set up their new homes they were interrupted by ominous ringing of the bells in the town square. Gathering they found [info]Jeeves looking solemn standing in front of a podium a [info]duck puddling around at his feet.

"I have a grave news today. The baker [info]JoelZero was found gruesomly murdered during the night. Even worse, he was partially devoured ... apparently served up with some cinnamon and sprinkles." the mayor's butler began.

"Through investigation, the humble mayor has determined that four beasts, wolves most foul, have moved into Millers Hollow with the rest of the new residents! They are hiding amongst you, yes I said amongst you and could be your neighbor or loved one!"

"The mayor is demanding that we find these horrid creatures and execute them. Therefore you must decide today who amongst you is a wolf so that before sundown when these creatures are at their peak power we can kill one in retribution and hopefully begin purging this horror from our small hamlet."

"Debat now and choose wisely for we do not want to accidentally kill an innocent amongst you!"

Early in the game, especially on the first day, you either have to vote randomly or base your vote on prejudices left over from earlier games. Players that have shown themselves in the past to be the most dangerous wolves due to their preternatural ability for manipulation tend to top my list on the first day. Yes, I am aware of the statistics (please, let’s wait a few days before we start getting the numbers posts!) and I am aware that newbies, of which I have no behavioral knowledge of are just as likely to be wolves as anyone else. Yes I know there is a good chance that none of the people on my list are wolves and that by calling them out any villagers on the list might think that I am a wolf. And yes, I am sure there is at least one grammatical error in this post.

I also know that I tend to ramble. I can write a ton and not actually “say” anything useful.

So here’s my list of some players that are super dangerous as wolves (arranged alphabetically): [info]Baronlaw, [info]Cambler, [info]Gorillashaman, [info]Maniakes, and [info]Sonicbunny. Yes, I know I can only vote for one. And no- I don’t know who I will vote for, and I reserve the right to change my mind to any player I feel like for any reason.

Now pass those waffles. All this ruminating has made me hungry. Are there any strawberries left?

true, but I could argue that because I'm new, the odds of my being a wolf are less. But, since all is random and history has no weight, we're all equally likely of being wolves at this point. The problem with logic in this game is that there is not enough data. No one has to be a good liar, just able to type a lie. The only proof I offer for not being a wolf is that I'm not lucky enough to get the fun roles. I feel quite confident that werewolves would not eat waffles, thus although I am new to this picturesque location, I already count the waffle eaters (and bakers) among my villagy friends.

Although I find a dislike of waffles to be a distressing sign, I don't think it's actually proof of wolfiness.

I would feel better about voting if there was anyone with a smear of blood left on their mouth or an odd accumulation of fur in the shower drain.

I don't suppose anyone has noticed particularly sharp teeth when dining in the evening?

Strictly speaking, bolding is not necessary for the automated scripts, although the Mayor may require it for his sanity. In fact, the script strips out all html markup before processing the text.

The script should pick up any instance of the word vote followed by a valid player name. Ditto for the word unvote. Also, the word "I" followed by the word "[info]abstain" will count as an abstention.

If you look at http://ma8p.com/~adam/ljgames/[info]millershollow/624.html#9672 you'll see his vote is highlighted in yellow, which is how the script indicates that it has detected a vote, even though he did not bold the text.

Could it be that you're guilty of precisely what I am accusing you of and you needed over half an hour to figure out how you could turn it back on me? "Not a wolf" claims are probably better than "plain villager" claims. The first does not give the wolves any new information; they already know you're not a wolf.

However, telling them you are a "plain villager" (i.e. not anything special) may give them new information. They may target you, hoping to get the afflicted (you wouldn't know). Or they may not target you hoping to get more specials like the seer.

That is, if they can trust your word.

The "not a wolf" claim is, however, worthless. If you're a wolf, would you come out and say it? Obviously not. You'd lie through your teeth. Therefore we can expect ALL players to make the "not a wolf" claim. Why bother making it at all?

I don't believe you. A wolf wouldn't want to be lynched, so he'd lie and claim not to be a wolf. By asking to be lynched, you are showing distinctly non-wolfy tendencies.

Four possible explanations for your claim:
1. You are a villager, and you're asking to be lynched in order to rule out the possibility of losing a villager the first round.

2. You're the hunter, you think you've figured out a wolf already, and you're asking to be lynched so you can get your shot off.

3. You're a wolf running an extremely risky double-bluff. I consider this unlikely given that it's the first day (making it more likely that people will go along with lynching you for lack of a better idea), and given that the seer is still out there to scan you if you survive.

4. You are both the seer and Ralph [info]Nader, and you scanned yourself last night.

3) is a possibility, and many people seem to suspect as much, but as you point out, it's an unlikely first day ploy. I've got balls, yes, but they're not quite that big. (Or are they? Mwa-ha-ha! )

2) is a possibility, although I doubt there's much reason for a potential hunter to believe they have a wolf in their sights.

1) is the most likely possibility. Let's work with that for a moment.

There are, I think, 4 wolves, 7 known-to-player specials, 3 special-but-unknown-to-player, and 15 vanilla villagers.

If I am a villager, you can probably safely assume I'm not a special (i.e. not a seer, a witch, Cupid, Hunter, Bodyguard, Martyr, or Serial Killer) and also not a lover, which means I am safe to lynch.

If I was told I was a plain vanilla villager, there's a 1/6 chance (16%!) that I might be a special and not know it.

I could be a ghost and not know it, but that wouldn't matter until *after* I died.

I could be an afflicted or a Ralph [info]Nader and not know it. If I were one of those two specials, it could negatively impact the game for the villagers if I were eaten or allowed to live and seered on.

This early in the game, an accidental villager lynch is almost guranteed.

Imagine if we accidentally lynched a lover. Whoops, 2 gone. How about accidentally lynching the hunter? Whoops 2 gone again.

Accidentally lynching a known special would lose the benefits of that special for the villagers.

It's too early for that.

Since Odds are good we'll lynch a villager first day no matter what (86%!), wouldn't it make sense to lynch someone we can afford to lose? What's the best way for me to manipulate everyone into lynching me?

Oh, and for the record, in case I *don't* get lynched, and the wolves try to eat me, I do *NOT* want to be saved; it would be a waste. If you believe I'm a wolf, there's no point in saving me. If I'm the afflicted, the witch won't get a chance to save me (I'll turn). Folks, if you're a vanilla villager trying to get lynched, remember two things.

This works best if only ONE per day stands up and claims wolfhood.

sorta . . . a new role added this game is THE GHOST . . . however, the GHOST doesn't know he's the GHOST . . . on top of that, really all that gets to happen is after dying, the GHOST doesn't become a watcher and can freely post on every day time post . . . his vote doesn't count though . . . so basically he can just be as annoying as he wants for as long as he wants because he's dead . . . he does not count as a villager as far as comparing wolf to villager counts . . .

Ok, I mostly don't think Gorrillashaman is a wolf. Mostly. But I don't quite get what he's doing, either.

Another scenario: He could be the Serial Killer, hoping that people wouldn't believe he was the wolf, and if he survived the day, would have a good chance of making it further.

But that's not a really likely scenario, either.

I hate the idea of killing of a really active player so early on, but don't think there's a lot of time to swing the tide in another direction.

And for the record, I *do* think he's ballsy enough to be a wolf and try this gambit...
